This 1960s Golden Era Haynes Flute was custom built for a professional performer with an amputated ring finger on his right hand. This flute & its modification was made custom during the original build by the flute maker Mr. Deveau at Haynes Flutes in 1959/60.
We have original records of purchase to keep with the history of the flute.
The flute has recently been restored, set with all new pads, keys properly fitted, and other issues resolved
The flute works completely as normal but for an added key that is out of the way for most players with good hand posture. There is a french Y-arm on top of the normally open-holed D key, making this key slightly awkward to press down on. When simply removing the extention key the flute is still completely functional. We will work with the buyer to set up this flute with a system that works for them or leave it as is. Rebuilding the key mechanism potentially has a few options, so we wish to discuss these with the buyer before proceeding. If the modification works as is for the buyer, then all the better! Costs for any modification will be discussed with the buyer and may be added to the purchase. Please contact with any questions you may have.
Model: Handmade & Custom Build
Body: Heavy Wall
Solid Silver Flute
Soldered on Toneholes
Keys: French Model Keys
Custom Extension Key
Headjoint #1: Believed to be original headjoint
"Special Embouchure" headjoint
Headjoint #2: Believed to be later purchase headjoint
Purchased in the 1980s
The two purchases could be mixed up, but the measurements for "thin" and "heavy"walls are correct.
Pads: Standard Precision Bladder Pads.
Case: Original, has been refit for the 2nd headjoint, but can be re-modified to take the 1st headjoint. There is a second case for the original headjoint.
The second headjoint & case can be purchased seperately.
Condition: Currently catagorized as "Excelent" asall repairs for functionality have been completed. keys currently left as is, no modification has been done to return flute to a standard instrument.
Modified Key: Currently I am able to play this flute even with the modification in place. The most awkward part is feeling the french arm under my ring finger. Until we know if the buyer wants it left as is or re-fitted for normal length ring finger we are leaving as is. I am looking into a few options for refitting this key for a standard key, but no decisions have currently been made. If you would like to try this flute or have any questions to what re-fitting is being discussed, feel free to contact us or stop by the store.
